Guidelines

A short guide to our platform rules.

thirdSelf is a place for growth, fun, and interesting discourse. However, we do have some ground rules.

  • Not everyone can join thirdSelf. We limit who can join, when they join, and how, based on our guidelines and legal requirements. In short, if you’re a real person (not a bot/fake account), and would like to use our technology for a good purpose, then you’re in! Apply to learn more.

  • thirdSelf is a place for real people. No bots, no fake accounts. If our profile creation process seems lengthy, it is because we aim to maintain a real, beautiful, and safe environment.

  • Free speech is one of our mottos, but we also maintain a respectful environment. That speech is subject to supervision under our guidelines.

The following are guidelines for acceptable skill hiring and conduct on thirdSelf developed in partnership between the thirdSelf team and the community.

General – thirdSelf is a place to add your skills for hire, not a place to break the law. Don’t list or sell anything that violates any law. Don’t list or sell anything that facilitates, incites or encourages the violation of any law. Wherever you’re located, be mindful of the laws that apply to you. Most of the following types of activities and conduct are illegal in many countries, and are strictly not permitted on thirdSelf.

Infringements – We respect the intellectual property rights of others and we expect you to do the same, including copyrights, trademarks, and patents. Please avoid including any legally protected material in a post without a legal justification for doing so (such as a formal license, fair use justification, etc.). We will remove posts in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”) when properly notified that the post infringes a third party’s copyright. We also take steps to terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.

Unacceptable Listings – We don’t allow certain types of listings that harm the community or that are not acceptable as defined by our terms of use. In short, if you are not comfortable sharing your skill with your friends and family, you can’t list it on thirdSelf. Types of listings that are unacceptable include:

  • Promotion of Illegal Activity – avoid listing anything that advertises or promotes illegal or legally restricted goods or services, including (but not limited to): Drugs and controlled substances, Sexual services, Weapons, including firearms, ammunition, and explosives, and instructions on making any of the above, Gambling, Fraudulent financial ventures or activities of any kind.
  • Pornography & Violence – thirdSelf is not a place to list or sell pornographic services, sexual services, or pornographic material. Neither is it a place to list services that promote, advertise, or perform acts of violence. These include any listings meant to perform displays of sexual organs or activities intended to stimulate erotic rather than aesthetic or emotional feelings and avoid listing any services or advertisements that would lead to people or animals being killed, maimed, tortured, or abused.

The following are guidelines for acceptable content and conduct on thirdSelf developed in partnership between the thirdSelf team and the community.

General – thirdSelf is a place to respectfully speak your mind, not a place to break the law. Don’t post anything that violates any law. Don’t post anything that facilitates, incites or encourages the violation of any law. Wherever you’re located, be mindful of the laws that apply to you. Most of the following types of content and conduct are illegal in many countries, and are strictly not permitted on thirdSelf.

Unacceptable Content – we don’t allow certain types of content that harm the community or that are not acceptable as defined by our terms of use. In short, if you are not comfortable sharing the content with your friends and family, you can’t post it on thirdSelf. Types of content that are unacceptable include:

  • Promotion of Illegal Activity – avoid posting anything that advertises or promotes illegal or legally restricted goods or services, including (but not limited to): Drugs and controlled substances, Sexual services, Weapons, including firearms, ammunition, and explosives, and instructions on making any of the above, Gambling, Fraudulent financial ventures or activities of any kind.
  • Hate Speech – thirdSelf is a home for civil and respectful discourse, not a place to spread hate. Don’t promote violence, terrorism of real-world personal harm to other people. Do not use veiled or coded language to skirt this rule.
  • Pornography/Violence/Gore – thirdSelf is not a place for explicit or pornographic material. Neither is a place to show violence or gore. These include any displays of sexual organs or activities intended to stimulate erotic rather than aesthetic or emotional feelings and avoid posting any realistic portrayals of people or animals being killed, maimed, tortured, or abused.

If you publish a post or do something else that breaks one or more of these rules, we will delete the offending post from the platform, and you will be given a “strike” for the violation.

Your first strike will result in a warning. Successive strikes will result in escalating penalties, from a temporary freeze (referred to as “Limited mode”) on your ability to interact with the thirdSelf community up to and including the termination of your account.

  • Limited Modemeans that your ability to engage in the thirdSelf community will be severely limited. Essentially, your account is locked from publishing content, interacting with content, or using your 3S credits. You are not able to post, comment, like, follow or unfollow, and collect or earn 3S credits. No previously collected 3S credits will be removed from your account, but you will be unable to collect new ones until Limited Mode has ended.

The penalty progression will generally look like this:

  • Strike 1: Warning
  • Strike 2: 24 Hour Limited Mode
  • Strike 3: 7 Day Limited Mode
  • Strike 4: 30 Day Limited Mode
  • Strike 5: 1 Year Limited Mode
  • Strike 6: Permanent termination of your account

You will be notified of the moderation action via email. The notice you receive will include a reference to the specific rule you broke, a reminder of your current strike count, and an explanation of how you can appeal the decision.

Note that the consequences apply to most violations of our rules, but there are certain categories of violation that fall under a Zero Tolerance policy and will result in immediate termination. We reserve this approach for the most egregious offenses, including:

  • Sexual exploitation of children
  • Direct threats of or calls for violence, terrorism, or real-world harm
  • Maliciously sharing intimate or personally identifiable information (doxxing or revenge porn)
  • Attempts to attack, gain access to, or otherwise harm the Voice platform or infrastructure

We may also take action in accordance with the Terms of Use if we believe it is warranted.

This is just the beginning.

thirdSelf is currently at the start of its launch, with some features and functions still in beta, and like all new products with big ambitions, we need some time to get things right. We’re working hard to make this a platform that works for you and for us, as well as strengthen security, and ultimately create a product you’ll love.

We began beta testing the platform in the U.S., and are set to steadily roll out globally. Because each place carries different legal and procedural requirements around identity verification and content moderation, we’ll need to take this step-by-step.
